Head of Operations
Ian started with a career in Coal Mining completing over 19 years’ service with British Coal, initially as a Management Apprentice and at 24 as the youngest Coal Mining Ventilation Engineer in the country. As a result of the demise of the coal industry in the early 90’s Ian sought a career change and returned to college to study an Access to Higher Education course; it was here he developed his I.T. skills and a passion for supporting his peers. He followed this up with studying for an HNC in Computer & Management Sciences as he embarked on a new career teaching ICT. During a 19-year career in adult and work-based learning Ian worked as Tutor (City College Birmingham), Senior Tutor (Sheffield College), Training Centre Manager (West Notts College Mansfield) and Work-based Learning Curriculum Manager in Rail Engineering, Management and H&S (Vision Apprentices) Whilst at West Notts Ian was also seconded to HMP Nottingham for 7 months to Manage the delivery of the Offender Learning contract. He was also seconded to the College’s sister company Vision Workforce Skills as the IT North Region Area Manager. Ian has over 30 years management experience and almost 20 years curriculum development experience. He is also a qualified teacher and assessor. Ian’s curriculum experience has included: IT Practioner, IT User, H&S and First Aid, Management, PMO, Business & Administration and Railway Engineering. Ian joined Ensis Solutions as the Head of Operations in June 2018 and is responsible for managing the operational team who deliver a wide range of apprenticeship standards and frameworks both regionally and nationally. Ian’s passion in life is foreign travel and lists Brazil, Japan, Colombia, South Korea, Peru and Vietnam amongst his favourites of the 62 countries he’s visited to date.
